This policy explains what personal data SoPoet collects, why, and the rights you have over it under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
SoPoet is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: lee.f.mortimer@gmail.com.
The feedback form is anonymous. We receive only the category and your message, and store nothing that identifies you, even if you are signed in.
We process account, profile, and content data to provide the service you signed up for (contract). We process technical data to keep the service secure and reliable (legitimate interests), and we send ourselves a notification when someone new signs up so we can keep an eye on the beta (legitimate interests). Push notifications and entering a theme of the week are both optional and are processed on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or send marketing emails.
Your profile (username, display name, bio, avatar, titles) and everything you post are public. They can be seen by people who are not signed in and may be indexed by search engines. Your email address is never shown to other users.
If you enter a poetgraph into a theme of the week and it wins, it is featured at the top of the feed for the following week, and we may reproduce it, with credit to your username, on SoPoet’s social media accounts. That means the poetgraph and your username would then also be handled by that platform under its own privacy policy. Entering is optional and is your consent to this; see the Terms for how to withdraw.
Data is stored and processed by our service providers: Supabase (database, authentication, and image storage), Vercel (hosting), and Resend (which delivers the new-signup email to us). These providers act as processors under data processing agreements, and transfers outside the UK are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, posts and their images, sparks, glosses, follows, notifications, and any push subscriptions. Residual copies in backups and server logs are removed on our providers’ standard rotation schedules. Anything already published to a social media platform is outside our systems; we will remove it from our own accounts on request, but cannot recall copies other people have made.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can edit your profile, turn push notifications off, or delete your account directly in the app, or contact us to exercise any right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
SoPoet uses only essential browser storage: the authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in, and small preferences such as your light or dark theme and whether you have hidden the news box. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
SoPoet is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please contact us and we will remove it.
If we make material changes to this policy we will take reasonable steps to notify you, for example by a notice in the app. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
